Barbara was elected to the Central Contra Costa Sanitary Board of Directors in 1992. She served as President of the Board in 1995, 2001 and 2005. She supported the development of Contractual Assessment Districts that make it feasible for homeowners with a failing septic system to connect to the sewer system. Among her other major accomplishments was the establishment of a pharmaceutical drop off program with the Cities of Walnut Creek and Martinez. The program now has 11 drop-off sites in the CCCSD service area, since the first two began. Barbara also developed the partnership with Solano Community College to establish the Plant Operator Training Program, a partnership of 15 water and wastewater agencies that offer college-level classes in water and wastewater technology taught at partner agencies in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. She currently represents the District on the Sanitation and Water Agencies of Contra Costa County and serves as Board Liaison to the Cities of Alamo, Danville, and San Ramon. Ms. Hockett holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a Master of Science Degree in Education. Ms. Hockett has been a member of the Nursing Faculty in both the Community College system and a private college. As Director of Education, she commissioned an international hospital in Egypt and has worked with the Employment Development Department, Department of Health Services, Community College Chancellors Office and private industry in the development of partnerships for workforce development. A resident of Alamo with two adult children, Barbara currently is a Care Transitions Nurse with the John Muir Physician Network.
