California Association of Sanitation Agencies

Since its inception in 1996, the CASA Achievement Awards Program has recognized exceptional public agency clean water services, programs and projects. The program is designed to recognize specific aspects of an agency’s success and communicate those cutting-edge ideas to other agencies to improve their organization. The Achievement Awards Program helps motivate members to improve services, programs and projects by showcasing the best of the best. Awards are given annually in four different categories:

• Technological Innovation and Achievement
  • This award is given to individual agencies in recognition of an innovative application of existing technology or the development of new cutting-edge technology applied to wastewater collection, treatment, wastewater and biosolids recycling, and renewable energy production.

  • Ironhouse Sanitary District (small agency winner) - “Wastewater Treatment and Water Recycling Facility”
  • East Bay Municipal Utility District (large agency winner) - “Process to Significantly Reduce Pathogens (PSRP) Equivalent Anaerobic Digestion Process”
• Public Outreach and Education
  • This award recognizes the efforts of an agency for its development and implementation of programs intended to impact or educate the local community on issues importance to the agency, such as on-going or special programs, education in schools and general public awareness.

  • Leucadia Wastewater District (small agency winner) - “Teacher Grant Program”
  • Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District (large agency winner) - “Clean Water Outreach Program”
• Organizational Excellence
  • The Organizational Excellence award is given to an agency for its efforts in managing the agency’s division, unit, or process, which is usually focused on leadership practices, strategies that promote organizational sustainability, organizational development, productivity, cost reductions, staffing resource utilization and employee development programs.

  • Napa Sanitation District - Performance Measurement Using - “Effective Utility Management” Framework
• Outstanding Capital Project
  • This award recognizes an agency that has executed an exemplary public wastewater capital project such as environmental protection and/or enhancement, sustainability practices, and positive public and community relations.
